Sean Charney, Deputy Director MCJROTC is a retired Lieutenant Colonel and a native of Lincoln Park, New Jersey. He enlisted into the Marine Corps in 1985 and spent the next 5 years as an Ammunition Technician. In 1990 he was awarded a Marine Option NROTC scholarship to attend the Pennsylvania State University. After graduating The Basic School and the Field Artillery Basic Course at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, he reported to the operating forces.
From 1995 to 2017, Mr. Charney served in various billets in the Operating Forces and Supporting Establishment Commands. Some of the highlights of his career were tours as Gunnery Instructor at Ft. Sill, Battery Command during OIF, MEF Fires Officer during OIF, and Battalion Command during OEF. He also served in staff billets at all levels from Battalion, Regiment, Division, MEF, HQMC, and the Joint Staff.
Mr. Charney has a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the Pennsylvania State University. He also has a Master’s Degree in Military Studies from Marine Corps Command and Staff College and a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the Marine Corps War College.
Personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal w/gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/gold star and V, Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/gold star, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.
